Mark,
Thanks for your eloquent and concise statement! It was quite correct, and one that needed to be stated.

Long ago I was taught that statements that included such absolutes as "all",
"none", "always", "never", etc ran a high likelihood (very near 100%) of
being erroneous.

So, I must dispute the "All religion is crap" and "All religion does this,
that and the other thing" proclamations.  I would not support the
proclamation that "Atheism is crap" or "Agnosticism is crap" so I will not
support the statement that "ALL religion is crap".  Some is and some is
not.  Most often when religion turns to crap it is the result of human abuse
of power and distortion of the actual teachings of the given faith.

To be clear, I do not follow any organized religion.  I do not consider
myself "religious".  I have a personal spirituality which draws on many
sources and works for me.

I see the massive flaws of organized religion and vigorously denounce its
many wrongdoings.  Anybody who knows me or is one of my Facebook friends
will attest to to that.

However, I know people who are able to associate with a place of worship,
think and act independently, and are compassionate loving human beings.  For
them, religion serves a useful purpose and likely makes them better members
of society.  Neither I nor anyone else has a right to criticize their
personal choices or belief system.

So, my suggestion is this.  Let's set a behavior goal . . .* Love,
acceptance and respect for all humanity and a commitment to full equality
for all *. . . and respect the right of each individual to choose for
him/herself the best path for finding and following his/her truth that
enables him/her to contribute to the furtherance of that stated goal.  As
long as the individual acts appropriately in society and does not try to
proselytize, what right does any one of us have to judge or comment on
his/her personal faith. My answer is "None".

Cheers and Peace to All!

Mark

Moderator: Mark, your quote of the message edited out "The only religion should be one of kindness."

I believe that Kindness is fundamental and if a religion can not render such, than it is one of injustice.

I requested that we not launch a religious discussion.  Now members have done so.  I place incredible articles on daily basis in this group.  It alarms me that so many members  "only"  comment when it is one of "religion."  Therefore, do not continue subject as this is a "LGBT" group and not "religious" group.

What is wrong with members that most do not carry conversation on anything other than religion?

You know what I think?  Religion is a Brainwashing tool as so few humans seem to be reactive to non-religious events.  Only religion moves you to speak up. That mny friends is dangerous and a tool that launched the TEA PARTY (AKA. The KKK without the sheets)!  ......jake
